Legal Secretary - Litigation The candidate will be responsible to provide legal secretarial support to the attorneys. Prepare correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents from written and oral drafts. Proofreads completed documents thoroughly to check for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. Opens new files, prepares and collects conflict of interest checks, and maintains client and general files. Makes client and client related appointments for attorneys upon request. Coordinate attorney travel schedules. Assists with overflow typing, filing, photocopying, receptionist coverage, and/or daily attorney time entry as requested. Handle submission and tracking of attorney expenses. The candidate must have a High School Diploma, Bachelors degree is preferred. Must have at least 5 years of recent experience working as a legal assistant in a litigation law firm. Must be proficient in MS Word with the ability to accurately format complex pleadings, TOA s, TOC s and other legal documents. Ability to proofread and perform editing (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) of legal correspondence and documents is necessary. Knowledge of state and federal filing, including e-filing is must. Ability to type electronic documents from dictated tapes or handwritten documents is needed. Ability to multi task and organize/prioritize numerous tasks assigned by 2-4 attorneys and complete them under time constraints with minimal supervision is critical. Ability to maintain attorneys calendar including the scheduling and coordination of appointments, depositions, and necessary resources such as conference rooms and court reporters is required. Ability to type at least 65 WPM is essential. iManage experience is preferred. Knowledge of securities, insurance and brokerage business is a plus.
