Paralegal/Law Clerk Duties: Document management including scanning and filing documents. Reviewing and summarizing documents/evidence/police reports. Research and writing. Research various legal issues, writing memos regarding such research and drafting basic motions and/or declarations. Clients communication. Various types of communication with clients including in person, by telephone, email or messaging. Will include reminders of court dates, answering basic non-legal questions and status reports. Providing requested assistance to attorneys. Obtaining records from the court and other sources, including drafting subpoenas and supporting declarations. Following up on the status of such requests and having the tenacity to get the records. This includes calling/emailing/writing to court clerks and other court personnel. Attending staff meetings, including legal staff meetings and general office meetings. Answering the phones and conducting initial intakes and appointment setting. Note writing in client files. Tracking time in the Office case management system. Participating in client strategy meetings. Filing legal documents in various courts. Assisting with trial preparation including organizing files, witnesses and evidence. Being a contact point for various witnesses. May include possible opportunities to participate in the trial. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have experience working at a criminal defense firm. A passion for helping people. Tenacious, focused and hardworking. Compassionate and professional. Enthusiastic team player. Trustworthy. Accomplished in the use of Word, Excel and other Window based programs. General knowledge of basic computer systems. Experience researching with Lexis Nexus or West law. Experience working in the criminal law field. Experience working in a small office setting. Comfortable with phone work. Good writing skills. The ability to draft basic motions. The ability to find applicable opinions regarding novel legal issues. Organized and have effective time management and organizational skills. Teachable and willing to learn new tricks. Work well under stress. Bilingual in Spanish.
