Litigation Paralegal The candidate will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; research, investigations, and fact checking; and trial preparation. Must be able to work independently, capable of drafting complaints, discovery and other court documents, as well as meeting court deadlines, organizing medical records and exhibits, and communicating with clients and expert witnesses. Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects. Drafts legal documents including Complaints, draft case specific discovery, routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, non-party subpoenas, prepare interrogatories and discovery responses for clients; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures. Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, medical literature, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys. Interviews clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements. Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, non-party subpoena documents received from defendants, pleadings, exhibits, and other items. Review and summarize medical records in preparation for client s depositions and doctor s depositions. Work with doctor s assistants to set up video depositions. Assist and prepare attorney for all depositions. Preparing video clips, graphics, exhibits for use at depositions, and preparing attorney for depositions with medical summary, exhibits marked and other pertinent documentation in a notebook for the attorney s review and prep. Assist and prepare attorney for all mediations, including obtaining subrogation information, expenses, prepare video clips for mediator to review as well as graphics for use at mediation. Assist attorney with trial preparation, including preparing Plaintiff s exhibit lists, witness lists, Motions in Limine, subpoenaing any witnesses, prepare and mark Plaintiff s exhibits in TrialDirector, draft proposed jury charges, add all depositions including video depositions to TrialDirector, prepare all testimony graphics, visual graphics, medical illustrations for use on TrialDirector, prepare trial notebooks for attorney s use during trial, set up at courthouse Friday before trial to test equipment at court, prepare for trial the weekend before case setting with going over presentations with attorney for opening statement, direct examinations, cross examinations, and prepare additional graphics for use at trial. Attend and present at all trials for attorney with TrialDirector, including working with Judge s court reporter in providing her with copies of all exhibit lists, depositions played by video (the clip portions), witness lists and provide her with all admitted original exhibits at close of case. Re-clip (if necessary) any video depositions at trial, prepare graphics in court for witnesses, closing arguments. Performs other related duties as assigned. The candidate should have 5+ years experience working on litigation cases. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammatical and proofreading skills. Should have outstanding time-management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, work under pressure and keep attorneys abreast of upcoming due dates and deadlines. Should have knowledge of various legal documents and their uses; filing procedures and legal terminology; legal office practices and procedures. Should be Knowledgeable in electronic filing as well as downloading documents from court sites. Must have experience with case management software, billing and tracking time. Should have exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
