Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal The candidate will manage many Personal Injury claims/suits provided by the Firm. Work directly with clients of assigned cases throughout the pre-litigation & litigation process. Work directly with paralegals and supervising partners. Evaluate & help potential new clients with intakes or assistance as needed. Draft legal pleadings, correspondence, and discovery. Assist with cases going to trial when necessary. Notify clients of obligations, deadlines. Ensure deadlines are met. Calendar deadlines, hearings, depositions, and mediations. Open and close a file. Do other administrative tasks as requested by the unit's paralegals and attorneys. Receive and maintain attorney's mail and faxes. Assist with the assembling of trial binders, exhibits, and appendices for court filings, depositions, and trials. Develop and maintain positive rapport when communicating with clients, partners, opposing counsel, medical providers, etc. The candidate should have 2-3 years of successful employment as a paralegal in a law firm. Experience in personal injury is required. Should be Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish). Should have knowledge of Google Calendar, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc, ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently, satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations in a legal office (preferred). Must be able to type at least sixty (60) words per minute. Must have strong skills in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro (PDF Program), Microsoft Excel, Case Management Software (Clio preferred), and or other law-related programs. Must be able to effectively handle personal injury litigation cases from start to finish, with little direction when necessary. Must be able to work on assignments without much direction. Must be able to effectively organize assignments and case-related assignments. Must be able to effectively organize a physical and electronic case file. Should have proven track record of effective negotiating skills, resulting in maximum final settlements for clients & client satisfaction. Must be knowledgeable in litigation laws including the California Code of Civil Procedure, California Civil Code, California Evidence Code, California Rules of Court, and Local Rules of Southern California Courts. Must have an intimate understanding of Personal Injury cases. Must have a clear understanding of how to navigate serious to catastrophic injury claims with large insurance carriers and other Defendants. Should have knowledge of CA Civil Procedure Rules, ability to think of creative solutions to problems or issues. Strong strategic thinker, proven ability to diffuse difficult situations and work well with diverse personalities.
