Criminal Defense Paralegal The candidate must have 3 years experience in the criminal defense field. Criminal defense is our primary caseload carrying approximately 75% of everything we handle in our office so the workload and responsibility will be heavy. You MUST be a self-starter able to work independently and use sound judgment based upon your experience in the criminal defense field. Our attorney is Court all over the state the majority of the time so it is up to the Criminal Defense Paralegal to take charge of the file maintenance and keep the Attorney organized and 100% prepared for all Court and Client matters. You MUST come in with prior knowledge and experience dealing with the SC Court system, the Solicitor's Office ,the Magistrate's Court, the General Sessions, Court, know which pleadings to file in Criminal Court and be able to draft them independently, strong organizational skills, time management, communication skills (both verbal and written) and be very comfortable with technology/data entry: Scheduling appointments, hearings, pleas, discovery reviews, etc. and maintaining a detailed calendar and docketing system spanning multiple counties within the state; Drafting correspondence, discovery, and pleadings independently; Maintaining and organizing case files; Communicating both in person, via telephone and through email with clients, Court personnel and opposing counsel / other attorneys; Assisting attorney in Court for hearings and trials (including preparing a thorough and detailed trial notebook when necessitated); Attending roll call / roster calls and scheduling cases for Court when necessary
