Criminal Defense Paralegal The candidate will be working closely with our attorneys and across the organization to assist in a variety of paralegal, administrative support, and office management tasks. Assist attorneys with all stages of case investigation and litigation, as well as with other administrative and office maintenance tasks. Requesting public records and tracking requests. Performing case opening and closing procedures. Participation in client/witness outreach and interviews, including inside jails/prisons. Organizing, maintaining, and managing case files. Drafting letters and simple legal filings. Managing process service. Reviewing memoranda of law and other legal documents. Reviewing and coordinating discovery, and drafting discovery requests. Compiling bench books. Maintaining case calendars. Tracking filing and response deadlines. Ensuring compliance with local court rules, proofreading. Assisting with preparation for all depositions, and court proceedings. The candidate should preferably have a Bachelor's Degree and 1+ years of experience in Microsoft Office. A paralegal program certificate or an associate degree in legal studies is preferred. Must have 3+ years of experience performing substantive legal work as a paralegal or legal assistant in a busy and demanding law office environment. Must be fluent in both Spanish and English. Should have outstanding organizational skills, including document management and calendaring, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be proactive with the ability to identify next steps and pursue them and be comfortable with troubleshooting. Possess a high standard of professional and ethical conduct, integrity, and discretion. Should have the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and work with a positive, can-do attitude. Should be proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with the Needles and/ or case management software is a plus.
