The is looking for an experienced, bilingual paralegal/legal assistant to focus on Civil Law. The position requires a minimum of one year of experience in the field and offers an hourly rate of $15 - $24. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a broad spectrum of legal services under the supervision of a group of talented attorneys in a collaborative firm culture handling civil matters such as divorce, SAPCRs, probate, estate, wills, contracts, and more. This position is extremely writing intensive, so a high level of writing skills is required. Responsibilities: Meeting with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects. Drafting legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and statements; filing motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures. Researching and analyzing statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; providing written analysis to attorneys. Interviewing clients and witnesses and preparing summaries of their statements. Preparing, organizing, storing, and retrieving case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items. Assisting attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings. Developing and maintaining records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases. Performing other related duties as assigned. Communicating with government agencies. Skills and Qualifications: High school diploma required. Associate degree or better in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred; Paralegal certificate preferred. Some related experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. Knowledge of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, Texas Family Code, county local rules, and individual court policies and procedures for Harris/Montgomery County. Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
