Will be responsible for gathering the assessed valuations for the tax appeal year, reviewing the file, sending a letter to the client if the property is receiving the common area assessment, or alternatively, preparing the forms to file an appeal inclusive of applications for certificates of error if applicable. Preparing and distributing tax appeal proposals for new clients. Reviewing appeal documentation for accuracy. Scan and profile appeal documentation to iManage. Knowledgeable of Cook County Recorder of Deeds and the Cook County Assessor websites. Obtaining PIN # from appropriate source. Prepares, updates and/or maintains assigned tax databases. Assist attorney with large document production projects, and related projects. Cite Checking, preparation of FOIA Requests, contract review, letters of opinion, work with multiple attorneys and clients. Timely follow-ups on various, related tasks. Responsible for drafting, finalizing, and recording documents related to Condominium, Homeowner, and Townhome Associations. Any other duties as necessary or required. Requirements : The candidate must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be comfortable working independently, yet be a team player. Must be able to efficiently manage multiple projects and exercise good judgment in dealing with highly confidential matters. Must have 5+ years of prior private or government experience in the area of property tax appeals. Should have paralegal certification preferred, but we will also consider individuals who are working towards their certification. Must have ability to focus on tasks at hand despite hectic environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Examples of these activities are assisting attorneys with research, drafting and tracking a variety of topics related to client legal updates; preparing correspondence and external written communication; drafting/comparing transactional documents; assisting in the preparation and review of transactional documentation including assembly, tracking and distribution of all closing documents; providing assistance to lawyers at the closing; preparing, compiling and organizing documentation for filing with the requisite government agencies for land use/zoning approvals and condominium and other common interest developments; monitoring legislative and master plan actions in various jurisdictions; preparing property summaries related to zoning and subdivision status; maintaining a calendar of relevant dates; recording documents and handling the process for the approval and recordation of plats in DC and other jurisdictions; and conducting review of newly enacted legislation for client summaries. Qualifications: 2+ years of prior law firm experience, college degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred. Experience with title and survey review, preferably with HUD programs, and entity formation experience are plus. Ability to organize multiple projects, manage closings and handle document distribution, checklists and post-closing issues, is required. Excellent writing, technical, interpersonal, research and organization skills are essential to be successful in this position. Must have a proven track record of being able to multi-task, communicate effectively and meet deliverables. Must be organized, flexible, able to juggle multiple assignments, and enjoy the challenges of working with various attorneys within the firm as well as government agencies in the District.
