The candidate should preferably have higher education or coursework related to the legal field. Must preferably have 5+ years of experience as a litigation legal secretary. The candidate must have ability to read and write at levels necessary in a large law firm and perform math calculations as normally required through completion of high school. Formal paralegal training or at least 1 year of on the job training in order to have gained expertise to do substantive legal work is necessary. Ability to utilize a computer including use of a Windows operating system as normally attained through formal training or on the job experience is essential. Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate effectively by telephone and in person utilizing ordinary courtesy and tact. Proofread, and edit legal documents and client correspondence. Prepare deposition summaries, affidavits, witness disclosures, and exhibit lists. Manage calendars to ensure meeting all deadlines. File motions and pleadings with courts electronically. Prepare deposition notices and book court reporters/videographers. Ability to request employment records, Social Security records, and monitor files for return of documents from clients. Ability to retrieve case law and statutes from West law and other legal databases upon request. Organize and maintain Excel spreadsheets. Draft subpoenas, motions, and discovery (i.e., interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, etc.). Strong written and oral communication with experts, witnesses, and clients. The candidate must have paralegal or Legal Assistant certification. Must have 2+ years legal experience in litigation (preferably in personal injury or product liability).
