Bankruptcy Attorney Duties: Handle and maintain caseload of bankruptcy and/or litigation matters on behalf of banks and mortgage services. Collaborate with attorney and support staff regarding procedures utilized in the firm s bankruptcy practice, including steps in the process, documents, local filing requirements and judicial tendencies. Provide loan level recommendations as well as ensuring the associated policies and procedures are in compliance with the Federal Bankruptcy Code, local rules, case law, etc. Review Bankruptcy filings such as proofs of claim, notices of mortgage payment change, and notices of fees and costs. Draft pleadings, motions, certifications, objections, orders, memoranda, and letters. Attend hearings, settlement conferences, and other appearances. Keep clients apprised of status and developments in cases with appropriate communication via e-mail, telephone, and client systems. Promptly review and respond to communications received via phone, e-mail, client systems, opposing counsel, court staff, trustees, mediators, etc. Escalate matters when necessary. REQUIREMENTS: JD Degree from ABA-accredited law school. Bar admission in good standing (any state). 1+ years experience representing secured creditors/mortgage services is preferred. Bankruptcy or Default Mortgage Industry experience preferred. Competency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Excellent oral, written and communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels. Effective organizational, time management, problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to manage priorities and workflow in a high-volume production environment. Ability to work and communicate with variety of legal, non-legal and client stakeholders. Must be a self-starter. Monitors dockets for relevant pleadings, conducts docket searches and pulls and organizes docket filings. Prepares attorneys for hearings, including organizing exhibits and preparing hearing binders. Files documents with the courts. Prepares fee applications. Files proofs of claim. Monitors dockets for committee formations. Monitors various resources for distressed portfolio companies. Identifies opportunities for attendance and sponsorship of restructuring events. Prepares and coordinates business development opportunities. Bachelor s degree required and Paralegal Certificate is preferred. 5+ years of experience and a strong background in commercial bankruptcy required. Strong demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, the legal process, electronic case filing, and electronic research technology (LexisNexis, Westlaw, Internet, etc.). Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and various other software and databases. Self starter and team-oriented, with an ability to work across offices via virtual connection or occasional travel. Excellent interpersonal skills; meticulous attention to detail; strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and anticipate needs. Service-oriented attitude and explicit ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Requires regular and predictable attendance during assigned work schedule.
