Attorney Recruiting & Development Intern (Summer 2018) Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Manager, Attorney Recruiting & Diversity, and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures, is responsible for providing day-to-day administrative support and assistance to the Attorney Recruiting & Development Department. Expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm s Core Values. Assist Attorney Recruiting & Development department managing and sorting department mail and answering department phones as needed. Compile and maintain candidate data charts and files for on-campus and in-office interviews. Prepare on-campus give-away boxes and manage distribution. Assist with preparation of on-campus interview binders. Conduct research on market data. File resumes, letters and other recruiting materials as needed, and create and maintain departmental files. Assist with all aspects of the New York summer program as well as various attorney training, diversity and orientation programs. Assist with preparation of materials, copying of documents, and tracking attendance for summer program, diversity and attorney development programs and events as needed. Assist with scheduling and preparing conference and meeting rooms for department events. Prepare materials and assist with special projects for various office committees. Assist with miscellaneous projects as needed. Assist with firmwide initiatives as needed. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in accredited university or college. Ability to read, write and speak English. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Familiarity with database applications. Strong attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions. Ability to communicate with attorneys and staff in an effective manner. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner. Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities. Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, office and firm management, vendors, and law school personnel. Ability to work well under pressure, motivate self, facilitate creative solutions, and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned. Knowledge Management Attorney Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Knowledge Services, works independently, and in concert with the other KM and/or Knowledge Services personnel, to encourage the efficient and cost-effective practice of law by facilitating the creation of a knowledge-sharing culture. Developing systems that identify, collect and organize internal precedent materials, capture matter experience, and improves the efficiency of lawyers and the sharing of knowledge across the enterprise. Responds to transactional lawyer precedent requests by assisting lawyers with identifying relevant transactional documents, teaching efficient searching techniques, and locating precedents using internal and external electronic resources. Suggests and implements improvements to the information gathering processes (best practices) and the organization of information for KM sites so as to have this information available for dissemination and retrieval by enterprise search or other methods. Collaborates with transactional practice group leaders and other lawyers to design effective workflows and processes which meet the practice group s needs and priorities, and establishes relationships with lawyers to promote awareness of KM initiatives, to solicit their participation in the furtherance thereof, and to stay current on issues important to the firm s practice areas. Evaluate and oversee systems that track matter experience and with the guidance of the practice group leaders, and the lawyers, determine data points necessary to collect and analyze to derive insights that will inform the handling of current and future matters. Strategizes and collaborates with transactional practice group leaders and other lawyers to design effective workflow systems, processes, guidelines and standards that support the firm s information governance framework. Provides ongoing individual and group lawyer and staff training on KM tools and best practices. Develops and manages database architecture and taxonomies for existing and new systems and recommends guidelines, policies and procedures regarding the design and functionality of these systems. Works on other Knowledge Services initiatives and projects as assigned. Qualifications: JD Degree required with 3+ years relevant legal experience in a practice or research role. In-depth understanding of corporate and finance transactions and detailed knowledge of form and content of corresponding documents in order to communicate effectively with lawyers. Strong understanding of organizational practice group workflows and how these workflows interact with other internal firm information systems such as time and billing or matter sites. A familiarity with new technological advancements and how they are being applied across the legal industry. Ability to analyze issues and problems systematically, gathering broad and balanced input, drawing sound conclusions and translating conclusions into timely decisions and actions. Work effectively as change agent by presenting guidelines, standards and processes in communications that resonate with lawyers as to the value and importance of adopting new methods of practice. Ability to construct and institute training programs and lead both individual and group training sessions. Ability to create a project plan, set deadlines, delegate responsibilities and see a project through to its conclusion.
