Attorney Training & Development Manager Duties: Under the general supervision of the Director of Attorney Development and direction of the Director of Attorney Development and the Firmwide Professional Development Partner, and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering substantive legal skills training and professional development programs firmwide, including for the Academies. Responsible for supporting the non-partner lawyer performance evaluation process and other professional development related initiatives as the need arises. Serve as a positive role model and mentor, and to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm s attorneys, advisors and staff, efficient and effective departmental operations, and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm s Core Values. Partner with the Director of Attorney Development and other members of the attorney development team to identify and address training needs, develop curricula, and implement programs to maximize effectiveness and quality. Manage and oversee all aspects of technical and operational support during the design and implementation of training programming. Liaise with internal presenters to design, prepare and deliver effective training. Identify and coordinate internal and external resources for the delivery of other skills-based training such as legal writing and research, communication and presentation skills, leadership development training and business development training. Design and develop metrics and reports to measure and demonstrate success and application of training programming as well as strategies to promote training programming, increase attendance, and maximize effectiveness. Working with practice management, ensure training programming is tailored to developmental needs and responsive to feedback collected in the attorney performance evaluation process. Collaborate with practice management to design and develop training curricula and programming in support of their specific training and development needs and aligned with the firm s core competency model. Working with the Director of Attorney Development and other members of the attorney development team, build new initiatives and programs to ensure the continued professional development of the firm s attorneys. Manage the Akin Gump Academies including logistics and agenda. Collaborate with the Director of Attorney Development to design content and programming. Keep abreast of trends in professional development for attorneys, and evaluate seminar content and presenter effectiveness to ensure efficient delivery of content and attorney interest on topic. Promote internal and external training and development opportunities to the firm s attorneys and encourage attendance. Manage the firm s Training & CLE Database. Supervise assigned department employees. Liase with Human Resources to identify synergies with Business Services training and development programming, with the goal of increasing efficiency with similar programming. In collaboration with the Director of Attorney Development, support the firm s non-partner lawyer evaluation process including roll-out and communications, responding to practice management needs, and review and reporting of evaluation content. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree and/or experience in instructional design or adult learning. 4+ years experience in professional development or training in a law firm or other legal or professional services organization. Experience with professional development program design and implementation. Ability to read, write and speak English. Familiarity with California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington, DC CLE requirements. Strong understanding of law firm professional development programming and understanding of lawyers development needs as they advance in their careers. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel. Experience in working with attorney recruiting databases required. Familiarity with viDesktop highly desirable. Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers; attorneys; office, firm and practice management; and outside business partners. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure. Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to use initiative and judgment to accomplish results. Ability to work independently and with a team. Professional Development Coordinator/Senior Coordinator (Attorney Development) Duties: Assist the Director, Attorney Development & Training with CLE administration, special projects and other professional development programs. Serve as a primary CLE contact for the firm, including notifying attorneys of upcoming deadlines, communicating rule changes, and assisting with extension/modification requests and other CLE items as needed. Keep apprised of attorney CLE requirements and work with the Director, Specialist, Assistant, training faculty and global PD contacts to ensure that programs comply with applicable CLE requirements. Maintain CLE tracking database, including data input and distributing CLE certificates. Coordinate weekly internal and external training programs. Core member of New Associate Orientation implementation team. Maintain the firm s training website, including posting programs, relevant announcements, updates, etc. Work with the Director, Professional Development Committee and Talent Management team to assess and implement the firm s training and mentoring programs, and support additional initiatives and programs that promote attorney engagement and development. Assist with special projects and collaborate with other firm departments as needed. Any other responsibilities or special projects as assigned by management. Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent work and educational experience. 3+ years experience supporting and assisting with professional development programs for lawyers, preferred. 2 years of solid CLE experience. (3+ years to be considered for Senior Coordinator). Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong Excel skills, preferred. Event planning experience a plus. A demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
