Litigation Paralegal Duties: Responsible for administrative case management and litigation support. Work closely with the Litigation Associates to manage electronic and hard copy documents, prepare filings, memoranda and other work product and facilitate a seamless flow of information to and from the attorneys and/or clients. Develop the foresight to anticipate and respond to the needs of the attorneys, the clients and/or the case as necessary. Responsible for overall case file maintenance, including indexing and filing case materials. Assists with preparing court filings, productions and other materials. Manage hard copy and electronic case documents, including managing email and electronic files and preparing binders of hard copy documents. Perform cite-checking and Bluebooking of attorney written work product (client memoranda, court filings (including briefs), ABA publications, and scholarly articles). Proofread and edit attorney work product for accuracy (grammar, usage, and content). Research current events and perform key word searches on Lexis and other news data bases. Develop expertise in use of document review tools, including gaining ability to prepare sets of documents to be produced and perform key-term searches over the data. Maintain and manage databases on Concordance and other applications as necessary. Liaises with other office support staff, to ensure efficacy of workflow. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree. 0-1 year of experience. Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize changing priorities. Ability to create a friendly and professional rapport with attorneys, staff and external parties. Ability to work overtime and weekends as required. Responsibilities include conducting SEC/Blue Sky research and the draft, preparation, and submission of Form D and Blue Sky filings. Draft, preparation, and submission of Form SS-4, check-the-box/S-corp. elections, and applications for withholding (tax) or unemployment insurance accounts. Draft, preparation, and submission/transmittal of real property transfer tax forms (NY and NJ) and closing binders. Qualifications: 5 years of Corporate Paralegal experience. Be experienced in 2+ of the areas mentioned above. BigSky experience is a plus. Entity (corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships) formation and organization Knowledge of not-for-profit corporations, professional corporations, and professional limited liability companies is helpful. Prepares for and attends depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations. Understands database concepts and terminology. Assists and coordinates automated litigation support projects through utilization of technology, including, but not limited to, database management software (web repository or in-house) and Case Notebook. Analyzes and reviews various documents as required by lawyers.Prepares documents, such as statistical charts and graphs. Performs litigation due diligence searches, obtains docket sheets and other court papers utilizing electronic tools. Utilizes legal research software such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis for case retrieval and citation reference. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as government agencies, expert witnesses, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. Complies with department and firm administrative procedures, policies and best practices. Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Paralegal Manager. Responsible for billing of 1600+ hours of client-related projects and other credited work. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, 2+ years solid litigation experience and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery. Significant contact with lawyers, paralegals and litigation technology professionals and requires strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must be a self-starter, highly organized and a team player. Able to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal and personnel affairs and client information.Understands ethics of position including ethical rules in regards to confidentiality, billing, and client representation and advocacy. Able to interact effectively and professionally with clients and all levels of personnel, including attorneys, co-workers and administrators.
