Litigation Paralegal (Mid Level) Duties: Creates and implements paper and electronic document collection, review and production systems and tracking documents with minimal supervision. Assists attorneys in reviewing documents for privilege and drafts privilege logs for production to opposing party. Understands intermediate e-discovery and computer forensics concepts such as litigation holds, preservation of data and chain of custody. Creates and implements case file and organizational systems for electronic and paper case files and workrooms. Prepares for and attends depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations. Coordinates automated litigation support projects through utilization of technology, including, database management software (web or in-house) and Case Notebook. Compiles, reviews and analyzes documents as required by attorneys specific to case issues and determines necessary information. Delegates to, supervises and mentors junior paralegals, case assistants and temporary staff. Performs research (factual, legal, internet, and other) to identify issues and relevant matters and prepares compilation of findings. Assists with preparation of court filings including, checking legal briefs and assembling of exhibits and appendices. Understands mechanics of e-filing and e-files with courts and agencies. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as, government entities, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. Serves as factual resource on cases and demonstrates knowledge of case documents. Complies with department and firm administrative procedures and policies. Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Paralegal Manager. Responsible for billing 1600+ hours of client-related projects and other credited work. Understands ethics of position including ethical rules in regards to confidentiality, billing and client representation and advocacy. Collaborates effectively and professionally with clients and all levels of personnel, including attorneys, coworkers and administrators. Willingness to support matters at any level required whether it be as lead paralegal, deputy to a senior paralegal, or as a supporting member of the paralegal team. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and, 5+ years' solid litigation experience, experience with database management software, and medium case collection, review and production experience. The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery. Trial experience is a plus. The position will have significant collaboration with lawyers, paralegals and litigation technology professionals and requires excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Very strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to attorneys and staff. Must be a proactive, self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context. Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities. Able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to resources available. IP Litigation Paralegal The candidate will support the IP Litigation attorneys within the IP Section. Will act as lead paralegal on large, complex cases and be responsible for providing case management, document production and review, legal research, trial preparation and other substantive duties with an emphasis on U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and section 337 matters. Handle complex case management for ITC and federal district court litigation including discovery, research, Markman hearings and trial preparation and attendance. Manage paper and electronic discovery process and support attorneys in all phases of discovery and trial preparation, including coordination of electronic and paper discovery, depositions, transcripts and trial support. Create, organize and maintain databases, privilege logs and files containing discovery documents, physical evidence, summaries, deposition transcripts etc. Manage documents and war rooms and work with attorneys to coordinate large-scale document productions and reviews. Research all case documents, materials, rule and court procedure and prior testimony and publications of opposing experts; analyze, summarize and compile timelines and reports regarding findings. Obtain all necessary information and materials from vendors, clients and government agencies such as the USPTO, PAIR, and USITC-EDIs etc. Oversee and coordinate logistics for depositions. Assist with and prepare for meetings with clients, witnesses, experts and outside counsel. Coordinate the preparation and filing of briefs and legal documents: draft routine filings; perform legal cite-checking, blue booking and shepardizing; compile appendices and exhibits; prepare and submit electronic court filings. Manage all trial preparation and support activity: manage trial exhibits; prepare trial notebooks; maintain expert binders; war room set up; communicate with experts and fact witnesses etc. Manage post trial matters. Monitor rule and other changes in the federal and state courts and the ITC and USPTO and other administrative forums where the firm practices. Remain current in technology developments in the legal industry. Mentor and training junior paralegals. Must have a Bachelor s degree. Should have 3-5 years of litigation experience. Patent and ITC litigation experience is preferred. Strong expertise in all stages of litigation process is required. Should have knowledge of USPTO and ITC practices and procedures. Should have 2+ years of IP docketing experience. Experience with handling cases based on foreign applications or the Madrid Protocol is a plus.
