This hands-on position provides support as well as structure and process management through all stages of litigation, from initial case set up through trial and the appeal process. Manages and utilizes automated litigation support tools. Intermediate understanding of the overall litigation and discovery process; works directly with paralegals and attorneys in coordinating and executing requests. Coordinates management of case documents, including organization of client documents and opposing party productions; coordinates and manages review and production of documents. Creates and implements processes for paper and certain electronic document collection, and able to track documents with minimal supervision. Assists attorneys and paralegals in drafting privilege logs for production to opposing party. Creates and implements case file and organizational systems for electronic and paper case files and workrooms. Prepares for and attends depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations, as necessary. Coordinates automated litigation support projects through utilization of technology, including, but not limited to, database management software (web or in-house) and Case Notebook. Compiles, reviews and analyzes documents as required by attorneys and determines necessary information. Performs research (factual, legal, internet, and other) to identify issues and relevant matters. Assists with preparation of court filings and assembling of exhibits and appendices. Understands mechanics of e-filing and assists with preparation of documents for same. Coordinates e-filings where necessary. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as, government entities, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. IP Legal Secretary Responsibilities: Prepare and file formal documents in a timely manner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Handle administrative aspects of U.S. patent prosecution. Monitor and maintain attorney(s) case dockets. Compose correspondence, reports, memoranda and legal. Creation and editing of documents, memos, presentations and spreadsheets. Calendar management using Outlook and complex meeting planning. Coordination of travel arrangements. Time Entry and Billing. Requirements: 3-5 years prior experience as an executive or legal assistant in a large law firm or large corporate environment. Must have experience with the preparation of formal documents for USPTO patent filings and with maintaining U.S. patent application files. USPTO electronic filing experience a plus.
