Legal Assistant / Paralegal - Commercial Litigation The candidate will review contested files for determination of next course of action and proceeding as appropriate. Will draft and prepare legal documents, such as complaints, applications for default judgment, motions for summary judgment and motions to compel discovery and discovery responses. Assist attorneys in litigation, including counterclaims, court documents, scheduling of court hearings and hearing preparation. Handle client inquiries and updates pertaining to individual files. Review and interpret disclosure agreements, credit applications, equipment leases, engagement letters, service agreements, etc. Maintain files, hearing notices, agendas, calendaring, etc. for each departmental attorney. Follow up with courts and other legal departments regarding filed documents and hearings. Perform other duties as required by the attorneys and department. The candidate should preferably have college degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies or related field. 2 years of formal legal training or equivalent experience preferred. Must have 3+ years of experience preferably in attorney support and/or the collection legal field. Experience in drafting pleadings, adversary attorney correspondence, and other related documents is required. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook needed. Organizational, verbal and written communication skills required. Typing and keyboarding experience with 70+ wpm a must. Collection Law knowledge is helpful. Experience with billing a plus.
