Professional Responsibility Staff Attorney The candidate support the firm's global commercial and business acceptance functions, as part of the Professional Responsibility team working with the firm's General Counsel and Global Risk Director. The attorney will review outside counsel guidelines and other client-drafted terms of business and advising on the firm's ability to comply with such guidelines; review and draft responses to client-driven/client-provided compliance and risk-related audit, questionnaires and other inquiries; and draft, edit and track client engagement letters and related correspondence. The Professional Responsibility Staff Attorney will also assist with other professional responsibility projects as needed. Reports to: Professional Responsibility Attorney. Function as part of a global Professional Responsibility team working with the firm's General Counsel and Global Risk Director to provide support for the firm's intake of new business and a variety of other operational, regulatory and commercial risk issues. The Professional Responsibility Staff Attorney will Review outside counsel guidelines and other client-drafted/client-provided terms of business and assist the Professional Responsibility Attorney in Washington and firm partners by advising on the firm's ability to comply with those terms/guidelines. Assist in the negotiation of terms of engagement where requested. Assist in drafting engagement letters and editing letters drafted by other; track engagement letters. Assist Professional Responsibility Attorneys and/or partners with drafting materials/correspondence for clients. Review and draft the firm's response to client-provided compliance and risk-related audits and questionnaires. Assist in drafting responses to risk-related topics in RFP submissions. Answer queries from professional staff across the firm, including, for example, secretarial staff and Business Development professional queries concerning conflict checks and processes. Assist in drafting conflict waivers where requested and track waivers in firm systems. Work on ad hoc Professional Responsibility projects. The candidate requires a JD and at least 2-3 years total experience in a highly regarded law firm either as a practicing attorney working on client matters or in an in-house firm role focused on business acceptance and/or conflicts/ethics. Prior experience working on client outside counsel guidelines or engagement terms and materials, a plus. Requires general knowledge of U.S. conflicts rules and a solid understanding of contract review, drafting and negotiating. Strong analytical and organizational skills necessary. Must possess a close attention to detail and be used to working to very high standards of accuracy and efficiency, but balanced with a practical, common sense approach. Must be able to draft complex information succinctly, thoroughly and in plan English. Must be able to manage a workload comprising of day to day tasks and queries as well as longer-term projects that may arise from time to time. Must be able to effectively liaise with all levels of both legal and professional staff to assist with the resolution of issues and be able to inspire confidence from senior people.
