Legal Secretary The candidate will under attorney direction prepares correspondence and written filings and related materials including, without limitation, notices of appeal, appellate briefs, appellate motions and responses, appendices, and other documents/filings as necessary. Coordinates the clerical aspects of and assists in preparation and formatting of appellate briefs including, without limitation, preparation of tables of contents, tables of authorities, proofreading, and final formatting of briefs. E-files and serves appellate filings and tracks the same as necessary to assure there are no issues with those filings. Ensures organization, maintenance, and management of files; including, without limitation, correspondence, e-correspondence, appellate filings; and appellate court orders. Promptly and correctly calendars all appellate deadlines and actively reviews the calendar to assure the same is accurate and current. Monitors files and deadlines and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement. Performs handling of highly sensitive information and materials containing information (i.e. privileged or otherwise confidential) in a careful, professional and confidential manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Should have 2-3 years of prior legal secretary experience supporting litigators and/or appellate attorneys in a fast-paced law firm environment (minimum of 1-2 years of prior legal secretarial experience in the handling of Civil Appeals preferred). Florida State and Federal Court filing including E-Filing experience is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. High School Diploma or its equivalent required.
