Conflicts & Ethics Attorney Duties: Reviews and analyzes new client and new matter packets, consisting of new client and matter engagement forms, conflicts search results, request-for-approval memoranda, proposed or executed engagement or waiver letters, and related documents for new proposed clients and matters and reactivation of closed clients and matters. Communicates extensively with Firm attorneys and staff regarding the new client and matter packets. Under the supervision of the Conflicts & Ethics Manager, assists attorneys with reviewing and interpreting conflict reports to help attorneys make conflicts clearance decisions. Provides guidance to Firm attorneys and staff on the Rules of Professional Conduct. Works with the Lateral Conflicts Analysts in performing conflict clearances on incoming lateral partners. Assists in answering questions from attorneys, recruiting, human resources, and other Firm personnel related to conflicts of interest, the new business intake process, lateral conflicts clearance process, and Firm policies. Provides firm-wide orientation and training to attorneys and staff on Firm policies and the ethics rules. Drafts informed consent letters and ethical screen notifications, as needed. Reviews outside counsel guidelines, master retention agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and provides guidance to Firm attorneys in resolving issues with such documents. Implements ethical screens and conflict alert notices. Requests additional conflicts reports or updated conflicts reports from the Records Department, as needed. Maintains a database of engagement letters and informed consent letters for the Firm. Responds to requests from attorneys and staff for copies of engagement letters and informed consent letters from the Firm s database and requests for sample engagement letters. Works with Firm attorneys on closing inactive matters and removing unnecessary conflict alerts from the conflicts database. Requirements: JD Degree and admission to one state Bar required (active and in good standing) required. Conflicts experience on behalf of a law firm or 3+ years of experience as an attorney preferred. Working knowledge of the rules of professional conduct. General PC experience, along with knowledge of automated systems. Ability and discretion to protect confidential Firm and client information from disclosure or misuse. Strict attention to detail is a must. Ability to work well under pressure. Strong work ethic and willing to work early mornings and/or late evenings, as necessary. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Sound judgment and the ability to make good business decisions under pressure.
