Litigation and Labor & Employment Paralegal Duties: Initiating, organizing and maintaining case files in the firms document management site (iManage DeskSite preferred). Draft correspondence, memorandum and prepare legal documents. Conduct client and or witness interviews. Manage and update compliance and matter tracking systems and databases to assist in tracking and reporting on various matters. Provide assistance to external and or in-house legal counsel. Conduct legal research. Assist with investigation of complaints and or claims filed against various firm clients and coordinate collection of company documents for discovery and other requests. Request, review and respond to subpoenas and requests for information with minimal supervision, including identification, collection, review and preparation of documents for production. Assist in deposition preparation of company witnesses by analyzing the information and determining relevancy. Draft various types of settlement agreements for review. Review and follow-up on client deadlines, emails, and calendar appointments. Communicate in a professional manner with clients, opposing counsel, vendors, and firm personnel. Complete assigned tasks when expected. Provide support on periodic and special projects. Assists counsel with trial preparation. Perform all other job related duties as requested. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and or equivalent Certified Legal Assistant certification. 5+ years of relevant paralegal experience. Work independently and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Detail oriented and able to multi-task all assignments and or deadlines. Efficiently comply with strict client guidelines. Exercise discretion and independent judgment. Ability to perform Internet research and use of Lexis and or Westlaw. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the use of applications such as Styles, Redlining, AdobePro, PDF Docs4 Superb knowledge of practice procedures of the various governmental agencies involved in Labor & Employment matters, i.e., EEOC, NERC, DOL, Labor Commission, NLRB and others Experience with efiling in both state and federal courts with efile.txcourts.gov or similar mandated efiling vendor for state filings and CM/ECF for federal filings. Must be able to operate the Firms software applications on an advanced level within a reasonable period of time, and possess excellent reading comprehension and proofreading skills. Excellent customer service skills including strong communication skills, both in written and oral form. Experience in working collaboratively and applying individual commitment to a group or team environment in the spirit of cooperation to successfully complete tasks efficiently and quickly. Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts. Work overtime as needed. Experience with filings with the Railroad Commission, Public Utilities Commission of Texas and familiarity with the PUC Interchange Filer a plus. Ability to communicate in Spanish, both oral and written form, a plus. Knowledge of Commercial Litigation, Insurance Defense, Insurance Coverage and Subrogation, a plus. Must include salary requirement. Assignments may change from time-to-time and flexibility is essential. Paralegals are expected to extend support and service not only to primary attorneys, but to any attorney within the Houston Office. Each paralegals assignment may differ according to the area of law and each attorneys preferred workflow.
