Patent Litigation Paralegal The candidate directly supports the attorneys in the IP Litigation practice area and will work directly with established attorney(s)/agent(s). This position reports to the IP Manager for IPLA, Litigation and Trademark Departments and is a non-exempt position. Provides direct case support to attorneys in all phases of litigation, including discovery, trial and appeal. This position works closely with the attorneys and the IP Legal Assistant and Trademark support teams. Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within the Litigation department which may include to: Draft routine correspondence and litigation documents, preparing status reports, conducting electronic searches and researching technical references, patents and legal matters. Maintaining filing of federal pleadings via Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF). Conducting legal research on U.S.P.T.O. website, including PAIR, Pacer, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw and other legal industry resources. Researching and reviewing transcripts; performing cite-checking; and proofreading of all documents. Sherardizing opinions, briefs, memorandums, and other pleadings as requested by attorney. Preparing and electronic filing of pleadings in the, United States District Courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Corresponding with courts, clients, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, local counsel regarding cases. Prepare documents for production and privilege logs in response to Subpoenas, request for document production. Ability to maintain docket deadlines. Assist with reporting Trademark PTO communications to clients; preparing and mailing out Certificates of Registrations with invoices to clients; and Trademark searches. Maintaining time entry hours. A Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred. Should have experience with mainstream IP Portfolio Management software such as Patricia or other similar Docketing software. 2+ years of IP or paralegal experience required. Knowledge: Working knowledge of the rules of civil procedure and familiarity with the local rules of various courts. Knowledge of e-discovery rules and document collection procedures. Knowledge of various Electronic Filing Systems, including Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Knowledge of IP prosecution practice. Solid working knowledge of Office 365 and Outlook. Knowledge of and experience with Elite, Carpe Diem, or other similar billing systems. Should have ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within and outside of the department. Must have ability to manage workload with team and independently to ensure accurate and timely completion of assignments. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
