Employment Law Paralegal The candidate prepares drafts of legal filings, including, but not limited to, petitions, subpoenas, pre-trial submissions, exhibits, affidavits, findings, memos, briefs, appellate filings, motions, Answers to Interrogatories, Requests for Admissions, Production of Documents, federal court filings, and other specific documents as necessary for review. Assures that external filings (both paper and electronic) are timely and accurate. Strictly adheres to all case management deadlines. Handles potential subrogation claims, regardless of the source. Documents, updates, and calculates subrogation liens, and reviews statements to make sure that the medical billing contained therein is related to the cause of action. Prepares and organizes case files, binders, tabs, summaries, notebook cover sheets and other paper/electronic case materials to support client cases, court appearances, pleadings, filings, arbitration and other legal procedures. Follows ESA standards for quality and organization with strict adherence to deadlines and confidentiality. Prepares, organizes, and Bates stamps materials for production to opposing counsel and/or insurance representatives. Prepares packages of materials to be sent to experts, insurance companies, attorneys and other parties, including correspondence regarding information on the case. Performs and/or oversees (through legal assistants) the timely and accurate ordering and receipt of medical, employment and insurance company records. Tracks and follows up on requests for information, including but not limited to the discovery process, on a consistent and timely basis. Reviews and analyzes other pleadings and case matters, including discovery responses, etc. Confers with attorneys and clients regarding the status and findings. Reviews and analyzes case material to assist in preparation of case for trial, including drafting pretrial statements, exhibit lists, medical legal art, scheduling depositions for trial (expert depositions), etc. Schedules depositions, including obtaining a court reporter and videographer. Prepares letters, memorandum and other correspondence accurately according to firm standards and in an efficient and timely manner. Processes mail and tracks to cases files as needed. Orders tax returns and employment records. Documents, organizes, updates and calculates client's wage loss and when verifying calculations on forms and documents. Organizes, updates and maintains all medical bills, records and notes including preparing check requests for doctors, hospitals, etc., and reviewing medical records. Organizes and tabs important medical records. Prepares summaries of medical treatment and tracks completion. Schedules IME s, prepares and organizes medical records for IME. Tabs all material that may have an adverse effect on the client and/or case, as well as discharge summaries, operative reports, emergency room records, etc. Functions as liaison between attorney and clients and keeps current with client updates. Handles client calls and answers questions in a professional manner. Keeps attorney apprised, escalating issues as needed. Enters all relevant case and client information into Needles in accordance with ESA standards. Maintains a current Needles checklist. Meets with clients offsite to conduct "day in life" videos and to review answers to interrogatories, as requested. 2 years paralegal experience plus paralegal certification OR 5 years paralegal experience required. Experience in employment law required. 2 years experience in employment law preferred. Civil litigation experience preferred. Associates degree required. An equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience may be substituted for training/experience on a year-for-year basis. Exhibits behavior consistent with the ESA's core values. Demonstrates strong sense of integrity and customer service. Knowledge of the Employment Law legal process required. Ability to support preparation of complex legal documents, contracts, amendments and other related items with strict confidentiality, independently drafting for review and signature as needed. Advanced computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Pro, Internet, E-mail, and other software as required. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with internal and external clients required. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal required. Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented required. Ability to effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities and maintain professional composure required.
