Attorney Responsibilities: Support all aspects of the firms collection practice, with a particular focus on the Illinois legal process. Will require regular court appearances and working with firm management, clients, and consumers to provide legal counsel and achieve optimal collection recovery goals. Will include a wide variety of tasks associated with debt collection. Successful candidates will have strong communication skills and a strong interest in collection law. An Illinois attorney license is required for this position, but a dual license is preferred. Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable statutory and case laws (including the FDCPA, state collection laws, and civil procedures). Review and acknowledge client standards. Review will consist of the understanding of client requirements along with evaluating the standards to be compliant with the federal and state rules and regulations. Identify process improvements to ensure company compliance with legal requirements and/or to increase department efficiency. Review and prepare legal documents and correspondence (e.g., discovery, discovery responses, briefs, pleadings, motions). Review and approve for accuracy legal forms and documents. Review and approve Summonses and Complaints for filing with the courts. Review and approve Garnishments for Illinois. Write and prepare motions for Illinois. Review settlement letters/agreements. Prepare and file all necessary court closing documents. Review court schedule for Illinois on a daily basis; prepare court orders and attend court as necessary. Review and comply with court processes. Argue motions, as well as conduct trials and arbitration. Manage contact with opposing counsel. Prepare and monitor post-judgment collections efforts. Respond to client inquiries regarding the status of pending matters. Represent firm in a professional capacity. Perform other duties and assignments as required. Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in Illinois. 1-2 years' experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework affecting debt collection industries, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and related statutes. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion. Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment with the ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to manage time effectively to achieve goals and assigned tasks. Continuous attention to detail in composing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines. Ability to make regular court appearances. Knowledge of systems including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and various court websites. Experience with some type of case management software is a plus.
