Senior Litigation Paralegal RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State. Responsible for maintaining systems to collect, store and retrieve data, whether it is paper or electronic data. Conduct factual research, and legal research and assemble for attorney use. Research may include bluebooking, cite checking, proofreading of documents and transcript review. This process may involve utilizing additional software applications to assist in the compilation of tables of contents and tables of authority. Prepare documents, as directed by attorneys, to assist in the compilation of work product and other such tasks, such as assembling notebooks, preparing correspondence, drafting, proofing or editing reports to clients, drafting and maintaining document indices, preparing witness binders, abstracts, spreadsheets, trial exhibits and preparing, proofing or editing appendices for briefs. Communicate with clients, government agencies or officials, consultants and various other parties on a regular basis to collect and assemble information and communicate findings to attorneys. Apply knowledge of legal procedures, terminology, and activities to tasks. Apply understanding and knowledge of the litigation process from pretrial, through discovery, through trial preparation and appeal. Utilize and have sufficient competency in the various computerized litigation support software applications to manage all phases of electronic document collection, review, production and retention. Assist attorneys with appeals including compilation of the Record On Appeal and/or Joint Appendix. Assist attorneys with client reporting and communications. Attend and assist with depositions, witness interviews, hearings and trials. Assist attorneys with court filings and submissions (including e-filings). Assist attorneys with review and organization of documents and preparation for production. Responsible for overseeing other paralegals and temporary help as needed. Train and mentor temporary employees or entry level paralegals and project assistants on current assignments. Record daily time entries in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Firm. Perform administrative tasks such as photocopying, faxing, filing. Provide notary public services, if commissioned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree required. Paralegal Certificate preferred. 7 years of litigation paralegal experience in a legal environment required. Experience with PACER and federal/state court dockets/procedures. Ability to apply understanding and knowledge of the litigation process from pre-trial to appeals. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Excel and litigation support applications such as Concordance, Relativity, IPRO, LiveNote, TextMap and Third Party platforms. Knowledge of legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis. Bluebooking and cite checking experience required. Trial experience preferred. Knowledge of the appellate process required. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing duties. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone and follow the instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact. Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple cases. Ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes, push and pull packages and books weighing up to 20 pounds, and ability to retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to 8 feet high. Ability to work moderate to heavy overtime. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, and photocopiers. Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and nationwide, via private or public conveyance to assist attorney in attending to client needs on legal matters. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
