A branch office of a regional mid-west law firm, whose clients range from one person, to start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. This is a full service firm that has offices throughout the mid-west. This is a great, contentious firm that dedicates a portion of its lawyers’ billable hours to do pro bono work. This is a nice place to work, and people are quite friendly. The firm hires from both regional and national law schools, and values an attorney’s personality and diversity of experience.
Immigration Paralegal Duties: The candidate will non-immigrant (H-1B, L-1, TN) and immigrant (PERM, 1-140, I-485) cases; naturalization filings; Immigration case management; preparation of labor certification applications and a variety of business immigration filings with both consular posts and SCIS (e.g., E, L, TN, adjustment of Status, Immigrant Visa). Prepare nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions and applications for an attorney and client review (e.g., submission letters, immigration-related forms, supporting documentation); substantial writing and research for EB-1 petitions, specialty occupation H-1Bs, and drafting wavier applications and responses to requests for evidence for attorney review; manage heavy client caseload, including case preparation, client email correspondence, and client status calls; communication with government agencies such as the department of Homeland Security and Department of State-- to check status, as necessary; creation and maintenance of client status reports; evaluate cases, relays concerns, and proactively escalates to the appropriate team members; prepare forms, letters, documents and correspondence for attorney review; manage the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizes documents after attorney review; utilizes document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework. Qualifications: The candidate should have a bachelor's degree and/or a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program. Should have 1 year of employment-based immigration experience. Should have the ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and the Firm needs to change. Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines; ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team collaboration; ability to develop relationships and foster teamwork at all levels of the firm communication; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion. Problem-solving skills; ability and confidence to identify and analyze issues, make decisions, and initiate actions/solutions; ability to maintain composure and demonstrate good judgment.
