Paralegal I The candidate maintains client database; works with Practice Manager Administrator to ensure client information is current at all times. General Administrative (copying/scanning documents, preparing expense reports, reviewing/editing letters and other correspondence). Creates initial client and litigation file. Transcription as needed for attorneys, interviews and meetings. Mails packets to clients; follows up to ensure a timely return of information. Obtains client questionnaire and appropriate authorizations. Obtains probate documents from PR should injured party be deceased. Answers general, routine questions or referring client appropriately. Requests records from health care providers, hospitals, Social Security Administration, Workers Compensation, financial institutions, etc. Responsible for payment of invoices associated with requests for medical records, financial records, SS records, etc. Completes and submits claim forms and all required information regarding administrative and bankrupt claims. Organizes client medical notebook. Prepares affidavits for PID, work history and co-workers as directed by attorney. Schedules and notices depositions along with court reporter and videographer. Assists more senior paralegals with preparing trial notebooks and packing for trial. Arrangements for A/V equipment to be used at trial (projectors, blow-ups, etc.). Assists with scheduling witnesses for trial. Indexes depositions. Prepares simple pleadings; serves pleadings as directed. Maintains contact with co-counsel. Examines statutes, articles, constitutions, codes, etc. for the preparation of documents. Files pleadings with court clerk as needed. Bachelor s Degree: 0-1 year of legal experience is needed. Associate s Degree/ABA Accredited Paralegal Certificate: 1-5 years legal experience, OR 3-5 years of legal experience is needed. Knowledge and understanding of the Rules for Professional Conduct (Rule 407, SCACR) and the South Carolina Rules of Court for both state and federal courts are needed. Interpersonal skills necessary to interface with partners, associates, co-counsel, support staff, medical personnel, and others outside the Firm. Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing is essential. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to learn other software and/or database management systems as necessary is needed. Good judgment and discretion necessary to maintain confidentiality of information shared/gained/received while in the employ of RPWB is essential.
