Paralegal Manager The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the administration of the department, including: ensuring that the Department delivers efficient and effective, timely paralegal/ litigation support services to the firm and its clients. Delegating, coordinating, and tracking work assignments and workflow. Will be developing standards and protocols for delivery of paralegal support services, including responsibility for reviewing, modifying, and updating paralegal manual. Developing and implementing training for paralegal staff to ensure knowledge of and adherence to standards. Working with Firm Administrator and firm management to provide initial and ongoing training in programs, database platforms, handling of ESI, pretrial preparation, and firm standards and protocols. Researching and identifying ongoing professional development opportunities for paralegals, and working with Firm Administrator and firm management to implement initiatives. Providing direct supervision of paralegal and litigation support staff to ensure efficient coordination of workflow and timely and effective delivery of paralegal and litigation support services, with an eye to taking pro-active steps to identify and address training and development needs. Working closely with Firm Administrator to fairly and consistently administer collective bargaining agreement (B&K s paralegal staff are union-represented) and firm personnel policies. In coordination with Litigation Support personnel, training paralegal staff to provide on-site and off-site assistance in pretrial preparation (including setup of war room, preparation of exhibits, preparation of documents for pretrial witness preparation and cross-examination preparation, scheduling and logistics) and providing on-site assistance, as needed, for trials and hearings. Responsible for a moderate caseload and must be able to perform all the job responsibilities outlined above, including traveling to provide in-court assistance at a trial or In addition, as a small firm with fluctuating needs, the Paralegal Administrator must be willing and capable of stepping in to assist paralegal staff with matters in both the short and long term. Monitoring and keeping apprised of relevant developments, including in technology and systems in litigation support. Regularly reporting to firm Executive Committee regarding activities and current and future personnel and resource needs of Department including identifying tools and methods to increase litigation efficiency and workflow. Identifying, evaluating, recommending, and administering systems that facilitate practice support of professional tasks, including research tools, ESI tools and databases; document and case management tools and databases, and other special software needs. Working closely with litigation support and paralegal staff, attorneys, and firm management to identify and develop best practices and protocols for delivery of paralegal and litigation support services and conduct of litigation by the firm. The candidate should have Bachelor's Degree. Must have 7 years experience as a litigation paralegal or in a related (litigation support) position. Must have 2+ years experience in successfully managing/supervising paralegal/ litigation support personnel, and/or coordinating paralegal/litigation support workflow, in a law firm setting. Extensive experience and knowledge of handling and management of ESI in litigation is required. Must have comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in at least one litigation support database application (e.g., Relativity, Eclipse). Substantial experience and thorough knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in LiveNote and trial presentation software (e.g., Sanction, Trial Director) is required. Substantial experience and thorough knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
