Immigration Assistant / Paralegal I The candidate will assist the Senior Paralegals and Attorneys with the management of corporate immigration cases and client interactions. This includes a variety of duties related to legal document preparation and management, research and case management which requires knowledge of the legal system, terminology and procedures in addition to clerical and administrative skills. Prepare immigration cases as assigned by manager for submittal to the appropriate government agency; begin to achieve a mastery of case types from simple to complex filings within particular practice area(s). Demonstrate mastery of multiple case types from simple to complex filings within particular practice area(s). Demonstrate increasing level of independence in handling cases and achieving monthly filing goals. Responsible for working with attorneys in the preparation, filing, and monitoring of various immigration and nationality law matters. Understand the procedures and documentation required for cases to be filed successfully and following the company s service standards. Work with clients to gather the necessary information and documentation in a timely manner. Prepare forms according to information received from clients. Prepare letters and other documents on behalf of the employer/client. Finalize documents after review by Practice Manager, Team Manager and/or Attorney. Demonstrate ability to manage a high caseload and work within strict timelines. Monitor the status of all filed applications and petitions. Run reports to assist in managing one s own caseload. Assist with the review of billing protocols and ensure that billing guidelines are met. Evaluate cases and assist in providing case strategies and/or solutions to issues. Provide company contacts with training and guidance regarding the company systems and general immigration matters. Keep abreast of current regulations and procedures relating to filing applications. Engage in frequent contact with company client(s). Keep abreast of current regulations and procedures relating to filing applications. Make photocopies. Send faxes and scan documents. Retrieve and/or return files. Create mailing labels for packages and track delivery. Work with clients to obtain documents and information necessary to prepare applications. File and monitor applications and petitions with appropriate government agencies. Draft support statements and organizes documentations for filling. Perform research to obtain information such as background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, stand processing times, etc. Initiate contact with government officials to obtain necessary information to alert supervising attorney of potential delays or possible problems in the processing of an application. Bachelor s degree or Paralegal Certificate required. Strong preference for a writing based Bachelors (English Language, Journalism etc). 1+ year of corporate immigration experience in NIV is required to be considered for Paralegal I required. Less than that will be considered for Immigration Assistant. Ability: to excel within an extremely high volume environment; to make sound judgment calls; to work well with minimal supervision; to catch errors and correct the work of others; to prioritize cases, manage caseload and other tasks (i.e. projects, company management responsibilities, etc.); to meet deadlines and goals Physical Requirements; to maintain a sedentary position for up to 90% of the work day; to type and to grasp, grip, push and pull file drawers and doors; to walk and climb stairs or use elevator to coordinate with other departments required.
