Paralegal - Professional Liability Litigation Duties: Support its employment practices, professional liability lines and standard commercial insurance defense matters. May involve supporting several attorneys in the defense of ADA, community associations, employment practices, medical malpractice, and other professional liability matters, including architects and engineers, lawyers, accountants and realtors, and general commercial liability defense. The role includes assisting in the investigation of pre-suit matters, drafting medical summaries/chronologies, answering discovery, researching potential expert witnesses, preparing pleadings, briefs and motions and performing online legal research. Will provide support to attorneys who may be in the same office and remote support to attorneys not co-located in the same office. Will have significant client and claims personnel contact and may require occasional attendance at off-site appointments. Will maintain client and third party confidential and HIPAA protected information. Performs timely handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to all areas of operation within the organization. Monitors files and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement Analyzes contracts, reports, financial data, depositions, discovery, investigative and other documents, preparing summaries of same as requested. Collaborates with attorneys (internal and external) and business partners to gather information from clients and others Reviews client/business files providing oversight and suggestions to attorneys and others on appropriate action steps. May interview clients, witnesses and others as required. May locate, contact and act as liaison for expert witnesses in a variety of fields. Under attorney direction may draft reports, contracts, opinions, position papers, filings, pleadings, motions, interrogatories and other documents as necessary and assures organization of supporting files. May draft legal documents in compliance with court requests and applicable federal, state, local or administrative regulations. Drafts and prepares correspondence and other written documents as required. May be required to timely and accurately record tasks and time in billing system and meet minimum billing requirements in addition to performing non-billable tasks. May handle tracking and disposition of subpoenas or other requests for information. Performs legal research and keeps current with procedures used by local, state and federal courts or administrative agencies. Reviews and keeps current on evolving case law and new legislation affecting compliance and litigation within area of expertise Collaboratively works with internal and external legal staff on various projects. Responds to information requests. May provide advice to client groups on a variety of issues such as employment and immigration of non-US citizens, investigation of internal discrimination charges, etc. Maintains internal records in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. May perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, and/or completion of an accredited paralegal program, or equivalent. 3+ years of prior paralegal experience in area of responsibility (defense litigation). Insurance background preferred. Must have 10+ years of experience as a paralegal and ideally the candidate would have some employment practices and professional liability defense experience, including answering discovery and an understanding of the Florida statutes and rules. Knowledge and application of legal research tools, legal theories and insurance practices. Requires a strong working knowledge of area of specialization (litigation defense, coverage, policy interpretation, employment and immigration law, securities law, etc) Solid analytical and drafting skills. Excellent internal/external customer interactive skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, legal research tools and business related software systems such as TeamConnect, Adobe, SmartDraw or others. Excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information in a clear, concise and effective manner.
