Litigation Paralegal Energy and Environmental Duties: Research environmental regulations, laws, ordinances and statutes, such as issues surrounding Clean Air Act and Clean Water/Air Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and Comprehensive Environmental Compensation and Liability Act. Analyze documents produced by clients, government agencies and third parties and prepare summaries. Prepare Freedom of Information Act requests. Track agency and legislative hearings and assist at administrative hearings. Create timelines of contamination, enforcement and remediation activities. Understanding land use permitting/licensing and siting. Assist in due diligence during acquisition, and financing of natural gas, petroleum, renewable energy and other generating, storage and distribution facilities. Understanding of regulations concerning utility and non-utility activities, sites and facilities. Experience with regulatory proceedings before Illinois Commerce Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Work with client and Litigation Support Department to ensure complete discovery in accordance to rules governing e-discovery, Requests for Production of Documents and Interrogatory Responses. Act as liaison between Litigation Technology Department and attorneys/clients in preparing data for loading into databases, preparing productions and privilege logs and ensuring adherence to database best practices. Draft Subpoenas, Interrogatory Responses and Document Requests. Create chronologies and timelines of key events. Create deposition and witness preparation kits. Research expert witnesses prior cases and testimony. Perform factual cite checking for legal briefs. Prepare for and attend trials/mediations/hearings. Formulate logistical plans for out of town trials. Prepare exhibits for Bill of Costs. Assist with Appellate filings. Qualifications: A BA/BS Degree is required; paralegal certificate a plus. Must have 3+ years of complex litigation experience in a law firm environment. The ideal litigation paralegal will be well organized, detail oriented, able to work collaboratively and independently, able to multi-task, technologically proficient, and able to remain professional and friendly under deadline oriented and stressful situations. Must be comfortable filing with ECF and preparing service copies for arbitrations. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, be proactive, discreet, flexible, and have the ability to exhibit good judgment and problem solving skills. Knowledge of Relativity and Trial Director needed.
