Paralegal/Legal Assistant Duties: Work involves clients with online copyright infringement claims. Will be assisting us with prospective clients, telephone and computerized intake, helping manage our cases in the office, giving clients email or telephone updates to their matters, and administrative work helping us stay organized and continuing to provide the excellent legal and customer service that has led Law firm to earn a fantastic reputation and many very positive reviews. A large portion of time will be spent speaking on the telephone to both clients and prospective clients who were recently served with a summons, or they received an ISP letter informing them a subpoena was received to reveal their identity in relation to the movie download lawsuit, aka federal copyright infringement lawsuit. This will often involve providing the prospective client with legal options as well as the risks and benefits of each option. Telephone intake including prospective clients. Keeping accurate track of the status of client matters. Assist in PACER research for new cases and case developments. Assist in creating blog articles under attorney supervision for new case updates Assisting attorneys in communicating with clients and opposing counsel Administrative and scheduling functions related to the practice.. Use of Excel to help keep track of client matters. Requirements: College degree; ABA Paralegal Program graduate preferred. Maintain strict confidentiality of client information. Ability to organize case authorities in legal briefs. Ability to write clearly in both correspondence and legal pleadings and motions. Excellent oral communications. Pay attention to detail. Ability to follow complex procedures and comply with instructions, court rules, etc. Ability to identify what work needs to be done and carry out typical job functions with minimal direct supervision. Ability to think creatively and solve problems. Ability to manage and prioritize work on multiple cases and projects to meet established deadlines. Ability to use judgment to make sound, justifiable recommendations, and to know when and to whom to escalate issues. Able to learn new skills as technology changes. Able to understand legal concepts and issues relevant to a litigation matter. Able to assist in improving the firm's litigation support workflows and practices. Desired skills. Online legal research. Experience with litigation procedures in federal and Illinois state courts. Experience with electronic discovery. Advanced knowledge of electronic research tools (e.g., Westlaw) and public records resources. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (including Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent organization and project management skills. Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Feedback and constructive critique from the attorneys is an expected occurrence and learning opportunity.
