A branch office of a regional mid-west law firm, whose clients range from one person, to start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. This is a full service firm that has offices throughout the mid-west. This is a great, contentious firm that dedicates a portion of its lawyers’ billable hours to do pro bono work. This is a nice place to work, and people are quite friendly. The firm hires from both regional and national law schools, and values an attorney’s personality and diversity of experience.
Patent Paralegal The candidate will work closely with attorneys in the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Will be responsible for organizing, preparing, and filing informational disclosure statements (IDS). Review and process mail from USPTO and foreign patent offices according to established procedures in a timely and accurate manner, and organize according to case type and client instructions. Generate and monitor daily docket of deadlines and ensure that deadlines are met and system is properly updated. Organize, prepare, and file informational disclosure statements with the USPTO. Research and catalogue extensive lists of patents, publications, and other literary material to be cited across multiple cases. Work with foreign law firms to supply them with appropriate materials to be cited in foreign patent applications. Work with foreign law firms and clients to obtain copies of materials to be cited with the USPTO. Facilitate ongoing communication with attorneys regarding additional reference materials. Process, catalogue, and update case records with continuous flow of new material. Work with the IP team to develop, implement, and maintain docketing processes, procedures and policies for patents, and patent applications. Provide reference and research assistance to attorneys. Perform additional projects and administrative tasks as assigned. Should have an Associate's degree or 2+ years of work experience in the field of intellectual property, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. The ability to learn legal terminology, rules, regulations, and procedures specific to the assigned practice area as well as policies and procedures established by the firm and apply them accordingly is required. The ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change is needed. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
