Associate Attorney Candidate will work for consumer defense litigation team. Will gain litigation experience and hands-on experience working directly with clients. Monitor assigned caseload to ensure deadlines are met and cases are moved toward resolution. Prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, and discovery. Communicate with clients, attorneys, and court staff. Negotiate with creditors, authorized third-parties, and opposing counsels to achieve final resolution of cases, arrange legal settlements, and resolve other legal issues. Travel to various courts in Harris and surrounding counties to handle court hearings, trials, and mediation. Perform computer data entry to update and maintain account and case files. Requirements: JD Degree from accredited law school with license to practice law in Texas required. Will consider law school graduates waiting on results from the February 2018 Bar Exam or taking the July 2018 Bar Exam. 1 year of experience in civil litigation preferred. Knowledge of both federal and Texas consumer protection laws including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Debt Collection Act a plus. Experience attending court proceedings in Texas including state justice of the peace, county courts, and district courts a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Strong organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment. Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
