Real Estate Closing Paralegal Duties: Responsible for completing the steps of the closing process under the supervision of a licensed North Carolina Attorney. Reviews the work of independent contractors and non-attorney employees. This position also reviews closing packages, closing instructions, assists the attorneys by the drafting of legal instruments for review by attorneys. Will work with lenders and partner inquires on questions which involve non-legal matters. Maintain utmost confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of his/her work. Reviews closing packages to ensure that all title requirements are met. Assists in the preparation of Preliminary and Final opinions of Title for the Attorneys to certify said opinions for purposes of the issuance of title insurance policies. Participates and assists Attorneys on title curative matters and requests. Drafts and prepares legal instruments under the supervision of our Attorneys for use in real estate transactions. Reviews Loan Closing Packages to ensure compliance with closing instructions. Assists Attorneys and signing agent panels with the signing of closing packages as required by closing instructions. Reviews completed Loan Closing Packages to ensure proper execution and notarization of documents. Pushes documents for record on the public record after Attorney determines title is clear. Files, calls, and emails in a timely manner. Provides questions during the settlement process to consumers who have questions regarding issues during the closing. Administers the afterhours settlement inquiry phone as scheduled. Provides reports to management upon request. Locks office and cabinets containing personnel information when away from office. Reinforces company culture and models company values. Adheres to company policies and guidelines. Adheres to State and Federal consumer protection statutes, and the rules of professional responsibility and other guidelines as set forth by the appropriate bar association. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Continuing Legal Education, Local seminars, workshops, home study courses, and courses offered through local colleges and universities are recommended prior to and during employment. Title Underwriting Licenses in SC and GA are a Plus. 1-3 years of general law practice required. 2-3 year of Real Estate Title and Closing Practice preferred. General knowledge of real estate laws and regulations in the State of North Carolina is required. Knowledge of Title Searching, Foreclosure and Title Curative is preferred Knowledge of Title Underwriting in South Carolina and Georgia is a plus. Proficient in English. Reading: understands written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents; applies what is learned from written material to work situations. Respectful: works effectively with those who have diverse backgrounds. Team player: works effectively with others. Technology: uses information technology and related applications to convey and retrieve information; demonstrates strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, email programs, and internet browsers. Telephone skills and etiquette. Verbal communication: maintains open lines of communication with others. Writing: uses standard English to clearly communicate thoughts, ideas, and information in written form.
