Litigation Paralegal Duties: Directing staff in the organization and management of data and evidence. Assisting with case management. Drafting, correspondence, pleadings, and discovery. Investigating, analyzing, summarizing, and tracking facts, evidence, and other data using online resources, such as Pacer, state court dockets, search engines, social media, Westlaw, medical databases, Edgar, etc. Facilitating records requests, including medical, FOIA, DMV, courts, etc. and subpoenas. Preparing pre-suit damages analysis. Locating and interviewing witnesses and working with investigator(s) as needed. Working with expert witnesses, including researching potential experts, preparation of documents for review, and coordination of filing and/or service of expert reports and attendance of expert at events. Communicating with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, courts, government agencies, etc. Researching, analyzing, and summarizing rules of procedure, evidence, statutes, regulations, and occasionally, case law. Drafting privilege logs. Facilitating IMEs. Actively working with litigation support and participating in the eDiscovery process, from planning and collection through production and presentation. Appropriately utilizing document databases, such as Eclipse, Relativity, Epiq, Viewpoint, etc. to manage evidence. Facilitating court filings (completing filings when necessary). Instructing docketing staff on recording deadlines, verifying accuracy of deadlines, tracking deadlines, and ensuring deadlines are met. Summarizing depositions, witness statements, and evidence. Preparing medical and/or case chronologies. Preparing for and attending arbitrations, hearings, mediations, and trials. Accurately tracking and recording time spent on tasks and projects. Qualifications: Bachelor or Associate degree in paralegal or legal studies from regionally accredited college or university is preferred. NALA Certification is highly preferred. 5+ years civil litigation experience is required. Experience working across offices at a distance is desired. Experience in construction defect and contract disputes is helpful. Experience in government relations is a bonus. Courtroom experience is required. Ability to proficiently and effectively assist attorneys in all facets of litigation from pre-suit through conclusion. A highly-motivated, organized individual with superior analytical ability, judgment, and research skills as well as the desire to provide exceptional client service. A self-starter with proven efficacy as a problem solver, excellent interpersonal skills, and the highest degree of professionalism. Must be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Outstanding technology literacy with solid eDiscovery skills is critical. Must be able to work with a variety of personalities. The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing internally with attorneys and staff and externally with clients, opposing counsel, co-counsel, expert witnesses, courts, government agencies, etc. is required. Must have strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and initiative. A good understanding of legal terminology is essential. Legal writing talent is preferred. Must be able to respond timely and effectively in a team atmosphere. Excellent knowledge and understanding of litigation work flows and processes is required. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional overtime in the office is required. Must have outstanding technology aptitude and literacy, including but not limited to the complete Microsoft Office Suite; PDF compilation programs; file management systems (FileSite/WorkSite); and time tracking software required.. Proficiency in at least two eDiscovery programs, e.g., Allegro, Eclipse, Relativity, Epiq, Viewpoint, or the like is highly preferred. Will consider one first generation program, such as Summation or Concordance with experience in a second generation program.. Knowledge of data collection processes, eDiscovery best practices, and project management is highly desired. Experience with trial director is helpful. An understanding of various eFiling processes and requirements is important. The ability to adapt to changing priorities and remain flexible under pressure to meet client and attorney needs with a positive attitude and composure is a must. A clear understanding of priorities and talent for prioritizing is desired. Project management skills, including the ability to plan, research, and prepare for various scenarios and events is needed. Familiarity with rules of procedure and the ability to quickly research and understand rules from various jurisdictions is needed. Should be able to determine when to problem solve independently and when to ask for help. Must be able to see the big picture while grasping the minutia of matters. Being a team player is key, including the ability to take the lead or follow as necessary and the ability to recognize which is appropriate in various circumstances. Prefer a paralegal with the ability to record time in a manner that reflects the value of work invested in tasks or projects. Must be able to understand and follow specific, detailed instructions while recognizing when to ask for clarification or make suggestions.
