Paralegal (Energy) The candidate will support the local Energy Practitioners and the national Energy Practice Group. Will report to the Practice & Docketing Director; and the Manager, Paralegal Services. Manage case file databases, on-line discovery and conduct legal research for cases before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), state utility regulatory commissions, and Federal District Courts. Prepare and file complaints and pleadings, including cite checking and proofing briefs, for cases before the FERC, state utility regulatory commissions, and Federal District Courts. Monitor client energy issues, including major rulemaking dockets, independent system operator/regional transmission operator (ISO/RTO) websites, and various state activities. Monitor industry publications and information resources, including FERC Daily Filings Report. Provide assistance with all phases of proceedings including preparing motion and pleading templates, filing briefs with various courts with strict adherence to court rules, preparing exhibits, marshalling facts and documents, monitoring dockets, creating presentations, managing calendar, and communicating with vendors. Provide assistance with all phases of discovery, including privilege reviews and privilege logs, preparation of discovery templates, document production, preparation of subpoenas and oversight of service, deposition preparation and summary. Order certified corporation documents and good standing certificates. These duties may be ongoing or ad hoc in nature. Other duties as may be assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position. A Bachelor's Degree preferred. Paralegal Certificate preferred. Law firm experience preferred. Must have 5-7 years experience providing exceptionally high-quality service to clients. should have Knowledge of FERC & eTariff filings and procedures and Electronic Hearing Rules (including use of WebEx). Must have ability to learn new electronic filing systems and remote hearing procedures as necessary and train others on the same. Must have the ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Must have the ability to interact and work productively with all levels of firm staff. should have Professional demeanor, attention to detail, and great organizational skills are essential. Strong verbal, written, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Must have strong computer technical skills and demonstrated ability to learn new software. should have ability to maintain discretion and privacy with confidential matters and documents. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF creation tool(s), document management software, legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis, Elite or other timekeeping software, Internet. Must have excellent client service, ability to work overtime and travel as needed.
