Associate Attorney - Family Law The candidate will work one-on-one with clients, paralegals, and opposing attorneys. Will be expected to meet often with the paralegal to keep tasks on track and ensure the case is moving forward. Will draft requests for order; correspondence to opposing counsel and parties; discovery requests and responses; Marital Settlement Agreements; etc. Will attend court hearings on all family law related motions. Will independently conducted hearings on the following issues: child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, attorney s fees, Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, and property control/division/sale issues. Will also be responsible for attending trials as either a first-chair or second-chair, depending on experience. Will conduct in-office Voluntary Settlement Conferences, typically with all parties and counsel present. Take or defend depositions. Run child and spousal support calculations and property division reports (we use the CFLR Dissomaster/Propertizer Suite). Conducting legal research (we use Westlaw Next). Manage family law cases from start to finish - including seeing dissolution cases from Petition through Judgment. Speak directly with clients, either in-person, on the phone, or through our cloud-based client portal. The candidate should have Juris Doctorate from accredited law school. Should have 3+ years of family law practice experience and a thorough understanding of California Family Law. (F.C. 4320 trial experience a plus). Should have minimum of 3 years of family law practice experience as a licensed attorney, 4-7 years preferred . Should be admitted to practice law in the State of California. Must have no record of discipline and be in good standing. Should be current on all continuing education requirements. Must know how to use basic support calculation programs (i.e. Dissomaster, XSpouse) and property division programs (i.e. Propertizer, Family Law Software). The ability to self-manage a wide variety of challenging cases is an essential part of your position is required. Should be comfortable in the courtroom, negotiating with opposing counsel, and speaking directly with our wonderful clients.
