Senior Litigation Paralegal The candidate will assist attorneys in all phases of the litigation process from discovery, through trial and post-trial findings and appeals. Manage cases independently and works under the general supervision of attorneys. Serve as lead paralegal on assigned cases from inception to appeal and be responsible for supervising junior paralegals and project assistants as necessary. Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State and California Business and Professions Code Section 6450 et. seq. Manage document organization and production processes (hard copy and electronic). Collect materials from client, opposing parties, third parties, experts (hard copies, electronic data, physical evidence). Assist with the development and implementation of document review systems. Maintain chain of custody and manages logistics of production of documents (hard copy, electronic, native). Assist with bates labeling, substantive indexing of documents and other tasks related to general discovery preparation. Prepare for depositions: conduct database searches and/or manual review of files to compile documents relevant to deponent; prepare witness files chronologically and/or by subject matter; organize, prepare, and track exhibits. Maintain deposition transcripts and errata sheets in organized fashion. Assist with the preparation and filing of briefs, appeals and other legal documents: compiles appendices and exhibits, proofreads and cite checks for factual data, prepares table of authorities, files documents with court (hard copy and electronic). Prepare for and attends trial: organizes, prepare and track exhibits; assist with the preparation of attorney work product; prepare deposition designations; compile exhibits related to direct and cross examination outlines; assist with the set-up of trial site logistics and other trial related projects as assigned. Implement and manage organizational systems to maintain case calendar, pleadings, correspondence and related case documents utilizing Firm software. Manage and maintain Litigation Support systems (Relativity, LiveNote, CaseMap, Textmap and third party platforms. Offer suggestions to attorneys regarding most efficient technologies to manage client matters. Apply knowledge of litigation process, legal procedures, terminology, and experience to efficient completion of tasks from pretrial through discovery and trial preparation and appeal. Analyze documents and materials. Conduct factual and legal research and assemble for attorney use. Research may include bluebooking, cite checking, proofreading of documents and transcript review. Prepare documents to include: privilege logs, binders, correspondence, reports to clients, document indices, abstracts, spreadsheets, and chronology of facts. Responsible for overseeing other Paralegals, Project Assistants, legal secretaries, and/or temporary help, as needed. Monitor details and quality of others' work. Interact with outside entities (clients, government agencies, expert witnesses, consultants, other law firms, opposing parties, court personnel), manage relationships with supporting vendors (e-discovery, court reporters, trial support) and communicates findings to attorneys. Record billable and non-billable activities on a daily basis. Paralegals and Project Assistants are required to record 1600 client billable hours per calendar year, in accordance with Firm policy. Experience with PACER and federal/state court dockets/procedures. Ability to manage multiple cases/deadlines in a fast-paced environment and ability to work independently. Maintain solid working relationships with peers, support staff, attorneys, clients. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree. 5+ years of experience as a paralegal is required. Must be able to demonstrate and meet the requirements of California Business and Professions Code Section 6450 et. seq. Knowledge and understanding of legal principles and practices is crucial. Should have intermediate working knowledge of e-discovery processes and software. Knowledge of legal research tools, Westlaw and LexisNexis, and electronic court system - Pacer is useful. Must have intermediate to advanced understanding and proficiency with litigation support applications: Relativity and Livenote. Working knowledge of Casemap and Sanction is ideal. Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with PowerPoint is a big plus. Strong oral and written communications skills are desired.
