Insurance Defense Paralegal The candidate will provide support to attorneys by monitoring case status and completing required actions and assignments. Paralegals draft legal documents, perform legal and factual research, ensure that documents are timely filed with courts, review, analyze and summarize documents and information, and communicate with clients, insurance claims professionals, court personnel, expert witnesses and opposing counsel and their support staff. Paralegals represent the Firm by supporting attorneys and providing outstanding customer service and accurate follow-through actions for all inquiries and referrals. Proactively monitors status of pending cases and communicates with attorneys as to case status and suggested actions to move cases forward to conclusion. Drafts, reviews and edits legal documents (pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, responses to discovery, etc.) and correspondence. Reviews and analyzes information, including documents provided by clients, client representatives, other parties and their counsel, and medical providers. Inputs information regarding parties, case status and assigned tasks into case management software. Monitors and assists with maintenance of case calendar by scheduling matter events, coordinating with counsel, and generating status reports to keep attorneys updated with matter status. Answers questions and supplies detailed information both via email and on the phone. Assists attorneys with preparation for and during trials, arbitration proceedings, administrative hearings, etc., by preparing key document and issue binders, organizing, assembling, marking and maintaining documents for exhibits, scheduling witnesses for testimony and performing other, similar tasks. Receives and processes a variety of requests for information, registrations, actions, forms, orders, notices, and/or other related information. Follows through on client needs through coordination of services. Assists with engagement and consultation with expert witnesses. Performs a variety of clerical activities and other duties as assigned. Reviews and analyzes documents, including medical records, employment records, insurance records, pharmacy records, etc., provided by other parties, their counsel and/or medical providers. Reviews the file to understand the alleged injuries and damages and identify missing records and/or additional records needed. Responsible for analyzing the relationship of treatment to the alleged injuries and determining discrepancies therein/. Reviewing treatment records and communicating all issues to the responsible attorney and paralegal. Drafts, reviews and edits medical record summaries and generates reports to keep attorneys and paralegals updated with matter status Associate's degree in a related field (such as legal assisting, law enforcement, or human services) are required. 5 years of related experience in Illinois State Courts is required Experience in Illinois required. Experience in any one or more of the following additional state courts is a plus: California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, or Wisconsin are required. Strong background in analyzing and summarizing medical records are required. Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with clients, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate over the phone are required. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent research, analytical and above average computer skills and knowledge are required. Good decision-making skills and the ability to function well under stress while working in a fast-paced environment in order to meet deadlines and deal with pressure situations are required. General knowledge of applicable subject areas, including court rules and procedures, and the ability to learn relevant terminology, policies, and processes are required. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and in using web-based applications are required. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and deal with interruptions are required. Strong attention to detail are required. Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics, good judgment and maintain the confidentiality of information are required.
