Paralegal (entry level) for Litigation Responsibilities: Work under close supervision of partners, and associates in preparation and filing of the Firms Supreme Court briefs. These tasks may include factual and internet research, proofreading and cite-checking, drafting documents, preparation of appendices, - drafting transmittal letters and other documentation, and assist with the filing of briefs. Assist with other appellate matters as time may allow. Support the leaders of the Supreme Court & appellate practice in several capacities. will play a significant role in identifying new cases that may be ripe for Supreme Court review, working closely with practice partners in deciding which cases to pitch. Will track all matters handled by the Firm in the Supreme Court and will maintain the appellate brief bank and the practices web presence. will manage monthly updates and client alerts relating to Supreme Court cases. Will primarily work under the direction of the partners, attorneys and other paralegals in the Supreme Court and appellate practice group and the paralegal manager. Will manage all Firm filings in the U.S. Supreme Court and will work collaboratively with Firm partners in identifying new opportunities for the Firm to engage in matters before the Supreme Court. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and evidence of exceptional scholastic achievement required. Background in, familiarity with, and/or educational training in performing substantive research projects preferred. Strong interest in and basic understanding of the U.S. Supreme Court and appellate practice preferred. Experience working with case management or tracking reports preferred. Thorough working knowledge / familiarity with office software and database products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet search functions. Reasonable typing skills with accuracy. Experience with Relativity or other litigation-related computer applications and databases would be a plus. Note, candidates anticipating spring 2019 graduation and requiring a summer 2019 start date will be considered. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and communicate effectively with attorney-supervisors, clients, and government agencies. Perfected and proven skills in organizing and multitasking, with meticulous attention to detail and deadlines. Work involves having to triage the various responsibilities, given that some duties are done daily, weekly, bi-monthly, annually. Client relationship and communications skills, including evidence of excellent reading skills, writing ability with clarity, analytical skills, ability to summarize research results with brevity and professionalism are essential. Must demonstrate attention to detail, quality control, responsiveness, accuracy, and discretion, and accountability for deadlines and early identification of potential changes to schedule are required. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively and actively by email, in-person, and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff, provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact, and permit successful collaboration and sharing ownership of the end-product with the lawyers and other members of the practice groups. Flexibility to work overtime as needed, with ability to travel for extended periods of time if necessary.
