Litigation Paralegal The candidate will proactively assist attorneys with all aspects of the litigation process from case inception through discovery, trial, and the appeal process. Understand the litigation process, and have working knowledge of the documents and process involved relating to pleadings, discovery, motion work, and trial. Draft, issue, and/or serve deposition subpoenas, requests for production of documents, record subpoenas, and trial subpoenas, and proactively follow up with witnesses as needed regarding production. Manage case files, including obtaining, reviewing and summarizing medical records, billing records, employment records, and numerous other types of records, to identify key issues and key witnesses. Assist attorneys with all phases of discovery, including drafting notices, and demanding and preparing document productions. Assist attorneys with motion work, including dispositive motions, including drafting simple declarations, and checking citations and marking/selecting/and preparing supporting exhibits. Assist attorneys with trials, including subpoena and manage trial witnesses, work with trial consultants, and assist with the preparation of pretrial motions and documents, including preparing actual trial exhibits. Conduct research, including legal research on WestLaw, and online research and research on various media platforms, and retaining private investigators as needed. Research, interview, and retain experts across the disciplines and specialties as needed, including medical doctors, economist, vocational rehabilitation experts, life care planners, and engineers. Work with internal staff and external experts, party and non-party witnesses, opposing counsel, co-counsel, insured, and clients in a professional manner. The candidate should have 3-5 years of applicable litigation experience including drafting correspondence and discovery; assisting attorneys in preparing for depositions, mediation, trial; document management; knowledge of court rules; proficiency in e-filing (state and federal); calendaring and docketing; and research skills. A Bachelor's Degree and a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program is required. Should also possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills. Experience with electronic document review platforms such as Summation, Concordance, and Relativity, including key word searching and assistance in production coordination is preferred. Should have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Case Map, ShareFile, Nuance, TrialPad and TrialDirector.
