Entry-Level Immigration Paralegal Duties: Directly supports attorneys and other immigration team members in the preparation and filing of petitions and applications with federal government agencies. Assist the immigration practice team with preparing petitions, routine correspondence to clients, researching immigration law and procedures, and case management. Play a significant role in gathering information and assisting with immigration strategies. Chair of the Immigration Practice Group, with day-to-day work directed by a designated supervisor in the immigration practice team. Provide highest-quality legal services to achieve clients goals in a multi-disciplinary law firm and assist with a wide range of non-immigrant visa applications (H-1B, O-1, E-3, TN, L-1, H-1B1). Work with immigration practice team to prepare a variety of different I-140 visa petitions (self-sponsored and employer-sponsored). Assist with PERM audit file preparation. Assist with family-based immigration applications. Assist with workplace enforcement projects. Review, organize, analyze and manage all paper documents, electronic evidence, filings and internal work product for immigration matters. Track the status of filings and initiate any follow up that may be necessary. Create and maintain LawLogix database and work with the Firm s IT Department and vendors to address technical issues. Proactively identify and develop solutions for potential problems and inefficiencies in the assigned areas of responsibility. Coordinate and manage scanning, coding, and OCRing of documents with office services and outside vendors. Qualifications: Bachelor s degree (or equivalent). Paralegal Certificate preferred. 2+ years experience as an immigration paralegal in a law firm (preferred). Basic understanding of procedural requirements for various types of non-immigrant visas and client processes. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and LawLogix. Experience with matter-centric document management systems (e.g., FileSite). Maintain strict confidentiality of client information. Interact effectively and professionally with all attorneys, staff, clients, vendors and other outside parties. Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent organization and project management skills. Attention to detail. Able to use judgment to make sound, justifiable recommendations, and to know when and to whom to escalate issues. Understand legal concepts and issues relevant to the immigration practice. Learn new skills as technology changes. Identify what work needs to be done and carry out typical job functions with minimal direct supervision. Think creatively and solve problems. Prioritize work on multiple projects to meet established deadlines. Work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment.
