Asbestos Paralegal Duties: Retain defense trusts by requesting medical records and communicating with coordinators on utilized experts. Review CRD index systems daily for record acquisition. Maintain and update records acquisition log. Research plaintiff information utilizing social media, Accurint, or TLO for attorney review. Generate docket reports for various cases as needed. Draft deposition and medical bill summaries, memorandums, and scheduling orders for attorney review and signature. Review and process pleadings and discovery. Organize and coordinate document production per attorney request. Communicate upcoming deposition notification and information with court reporters. Request and review pleadings or discovery from plaintiff, defense liaison, or trust coordinator under attorney instruction. Review documents. Obtain and process deposition transcripts. Update deposition lists and check deposition settings for incoming cases. Prepare documentation and materials for hearings and depositions. Perform conflict checks on incoming cases. Prepare and file pleadings. Request copy of records from various courts upon attorney request. Handle filing and documentation transfer in document management system when new cases open. Qualifications: A four year degree in Paralegal Studies or a Bachelor's degree in another field with a certification in Paralegal Studies. 1+ years of experience working as a litigation paralegal with the knowledge and skills noted above. Experience working in asbestos/toxic tort related areas helpful. Knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet project deadlines. Ability to proofread material for contextual, grammatical, typographic or spelling errors. Ability to review, organize, analyze and summarize facts and documents. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from clients and attorneys, as well as, work with other members in a positive, teamwork environment to service clients. Advanced knowledge in Word and Outlook. Proficient in document management and case management software.
