Position Summary Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures provides legal/general support to the firm's attorneys and their clients. Must be familiar with and observe the firm's established policies and guidelines. Must maintain positive contact with attorneys (both the firm's and outside counsel), support staff, clients and vendors. Observes confidentiality of client and firm matters. The Patent Paralegal is primarily responsible for assisting IP attorneys in servicing client s Patent Prosecution and post-grant proceeding matters including, management of worldwide patent prosecution dockets, electronic filing (EFS) of documents with the USPTO, including the PTAB, and liaising with foreign patent counsel.. This position is not limited to the functions and skills listed on this description and responsibilities may be revised as needed. Essential Functions Proficiency in patent prosecution, including (1) electronic filing of domestic patent applications (including patent cooperation treaty ( PCT ) with the USPTO, (2) preparation of patent prosecution documents, including transmittal papers, inventors Declarations, and Assignments for recordation at USPTO; (3) reporting filings and Office Actions to client. Familiarity with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office procedural rules for patent prosecution, including provisional patent application practice, USPTO due dates, petitions for extensions of time, maintenance fees for domestic patents and annuity payments for foreign patent applications; Experience with patent searches on patent databases, such as Orbit, PatSnap, USPTO website; Managing worldwide patent docket and keeping track of to ensure that all relevant due dates to ensure deadlines are being met by the attorney; Ability to take the lead on dealing with client needs and directly communicating with paralegals at client; Experience working with foreign associates with respect to foreign patent filings, payment of annuities, etc.; Willingness to handle filings after hours, as needed; and Other administrative duties within IP department, as assigned. Requirements Education: College Degree required with patent prosecution training Experience: At least six years or more as a patent paralegal with experience with US patent prosecution, including PCT practice. General office skills required.. Skills: Excellent organizational skills. Must be extremely detail oriented. Effective oral and written skills. Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word. Knowledge of patent searching databases. Knowledge of the Dialog database a plus.
