Legal Assistant/Paralegal, Part-time Duties: Provides administrative support to attorneys; prepare immigration applications, petitions and motions; monitors case progress from beginning to end; communicates with foreign nationals to track evidence, deadlines and answer general questions; manages daily operations of department needs; and maintains organized client files and online databases in Immigration Law Offices. Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations and legal articles. Organize and maintain documents and case notes in paper and electronic filing systems. Gather facts of case, conduct affidavits and other formal statements that can be used as evidence. Effectively communicate with clients, attorneys and appearance attorneys to schedule interviews, meetings and court appearances . Translate and interpret in Spanish (written and spoken) between attorney and clients. Type and file basic legal documents, correspondence and application forms. Monitor deadlines and appointment calendar, provide timely reminders. Performs routine office functions including: Operating office equipment. Answering phones. Client intake. General office custodial duties. On occasion, drive & deliver client applications and fees to court house. Requirements: High school diploma/GED. Preferred: Associate s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: 1-2 years in a legal assistant function for a law office. Preferred: Paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association Certificate Program. Required: Bi-lingual Spanish. Required: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs. Proficient in using computers. Typing speed of 60+ WPM. Excellent secretarial and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work under pressure. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
