Tax Paralegal Duties: The candidate will assist the Attorneys in project management and all aspects of tax and tax litigation support: draft and analyze documents, review for responsiveness, privilege, and other substantive or objective criteria; perform legal, factual, and investigative research; coordinate document productions; manage deadlines; and file and organize documents and case files. Overtime is required on an as-needed basis. Manage and utilize automated support tools, including MS Office, Westlaw, and LexisNexis. Perform factual research to identify issues and relevant matters, including confirming facts and legal authority, and preparing compilations of findings. Compile information concerning issues identified by Attorneys and prepare documentation, statistics, charts, graphs, and other metrics, as appropriate that clear detail findings. Interact with clients and outside entities, such as government agencies (IRS and state revenue agencies), expert witnesses, corporations, and other law firms, to gather information and data. Work with clients and Attorneys to gather, track, analyze and produce responsive documents. Review and draft routine legal documents. Maintain docket and manage deadlines for all active cases in a number of jurisdictions. Prepare all facets of tax cases for trial. Create and maintain case files and assist with team calendars and scheduling tasks. Work in conjunction with other paralegals, secretaries, and other business professionals to bring projects to completion. Manage electronic filing of documents with various courts. Qualifications: The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university along with a Paralegal Certificate. Must have 10-12 years of experience in a law firm or professional services environment; tax experience is strongly preferred. Must be a self-starter with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work under strict deadlines and handle multiple detailed tasks. Strong organizational skills with solid follow-through. Excellent communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Strong client service orientation. Strong MS Office capabilities - in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - are required. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
