This large international New York law firm founded in 1934 has established a full-service presence. Clients include large corporations and individuals as well as small and medium-sized businesses. The firm represents a wide range of industrial, financial and commercial enterprises, both publicly and privately held. Firm lawyers represent clients in every state as well as numerous foreign jurisdictions. The firm is organized by legal specialization: corporate, e-commerce, employee benefits, estate planning, government and regulatory affairs, health law, intellectual property, international, litigation and tax. This firm offers competitive salaries and many firm lawyers also practice interdepartmentally distinguishing them from many other large law firms.
Conflicts Attorney Duties: Conduct conflict analysis on new firm business and lateral hires; summarize any potential conflict issues; partner with attorneys to clarify information and to resolve any conflicts in a timely manner. Escalate to General Counsel, New Business Committee and Professional Responsibility Committee as necessary.. Coordinate with Legal Recruiting to identify all incoming lateral candidates; review work history for clarity and completeness; perform conflict checks and work with sponsoring partners and support staff to address any ethical obstacles to hiring. Consult with partners, Professional Responsibility Committee and Information Governance to create and maintain effective screening restrictions. Review engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines; communicate with responsible partners and work to reconcile any inconsistencies. Liaise with relevant stakeholders (Information Technology, Information Governance, General Counsel) to ensure firmwide compliance. Perform light legal research including review of caselaw and relevant jurisdictional issues related to conflicts clearance, lateral hiring, ethical walls and related issues. Requirements: JD Degree. Active member in good standing of Illinois or another state bar where *** has an office. Experience in using a Windows based PC. 3 years of experience in a conflict analysis and resolution in a large firm setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and sensitive data. Ability to learn new systems quickly and develop expertise based on emerging needs of the firm. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Database searching experience; experience with Intapp preferred. Familiarity with Capital IQ, Lexis Nexis and other research tools.
