Paralegal - Employee Benefits The candidate will provide support to the health and welfare employee benefit team and the retirement plan team. Will work mainly on health and welfare matters, while the rest will be on retirement plan matters. Draft plan documents and summary plan descriptions for health plans, cafeteria plans, and welfare plans. Research and prepare guidance for various health and welfare issues. Answer questions and assist clients with the implementation and administration of health and welfare plans. Prepare reporting forms for IRS and Department of Labor. Draft documentation necessary for required reporting and disclosure, including Summary Plan Descriptions, Summary of Material Modifications, and Summary Annual Reports. Prepare supporting forms for proper operation and administration of employee benefit plans. Prepare corporate and plan committee resolutions authorizing actions taken in connection with the plans. Draft plan documents and amendments related to qualified retirement plans. Answer questions and assist clients with the implementation and administration of qualified retirement plans, including pension, profit sharing, money purchase, 401(k) plans and ESOPs. Prepare reporting forms for IRS and Department of Labor. Prepare and submit retirement plans to the IRS to obtain favorable determination letters. Research and draft amendments and restatements necessary to bring employee benefit plans into compliance with current law. Revise plan defects in accordance with IRS guidance, including submission of plans to IRS in accordance with EPCRS. Draft documentation necessary for required reporting and disclosure, including Summary Plan Descriptions, Summary of Material Modifications, and Summary Annual Reports. Prepare supporting forms for proper operation and administration of employee benefit plans. Prepare corporate and plan committee resolutions authorizing actions taken in connection with the plans. The candidate should preferably have four-year degree or equivalent and 3 years of relevant work experience in a professional environment which includes progressive responsibility in managing employee benefits matters. Law firm experience is also preferred. Knowledge of ERISA, COBRA and Affordable Care Act statutes and regulations is required. High level of proficiency with technology including MS Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw and other Internet research tools needed. Should have ability to travel on occasion.
