Patent Paralegal The candidate will be part of Intellectual Property department and will provide paralegal support to a team of attorneys and support staff, assuming ownership for all aspects of file management to ensure a high level of service to both internal and external clients. Assist with all aspects of foreign patent prosecution and some U.S. including applications, responses, transmittal documents, etc.; collaborate with attorneys and paralegals as needed. Assist in filing of PCT, national phase, and foreign regional patent applications and responses (including preparation and review of necessary filing documents). Drafting correspondence to clients and foreign associates regarding deadlines and status of applications. Prepare shell prosecution documents. Review and manage files and docket for deadlines, understand docket deadlines and action needed on each file. Electronic filing with USPTO and WIPO. Overall support for all aspects of portfolio management. Maintain accurate daily time records for client billing purposes. Provide back-up support to team and project assistance as needed. Other tasks as assigned including billing portions of time. A Four year degree or equivalent law firm experience; Paralegal certificate from ABA approved program is preferred. Should have 5+ years intellectual property experience as a patent prosecution paralegal, legal secretary or comparable position working in a law firm or in house legal environment. Familiarity with iManage and FoundationIP a plus. Should have 4+ years intellectual property experience working in a law firm or in-house legal environment; experience with USPTO electronic filing procedures. Must have high level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications, (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of U.S., PCT and foreign patent rules and procedure; knowledge of national laws of other countries is needed. Should understand lifecycle of patent applications from pre-filing stages, to prosecution, onto issuance. Must have excellent client service skills; ability to work in fast-paced environment; ability to perform well under pressure; excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently; possess effective written and oral communication skills; able to meet deadlines.
