Though the Los Angeles office of this full-service litigation firm continues to specialize in complex insurance litigation coverage, the firm’s main office has recently tried to cash in on the technology litigation market to “bring some growth to the firm.” The transition has not been an easy one; the firm has had an unusually high attrition rate in recent years (insiders tell us some associates left to pursue government jobs but many departed for better money with different firms). However, while salaries remain slightly below market, many observers think the firm is capable of breaking through.
Legal Secretary The candidate should have at least 3-5 years of litigation support and administrative experience. Must have strong litigation and legal administrative skills. Will assist in maintaining all aspects of the attorneys' practice. Will prepare complex legal documents and correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology and advanced formatting skills. Will generate TOCs, TOAs, and templates for legal pleadings and discovery. Should possess a strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal court litigation documentation and filing procedures. Will proficiently e-file with courts and agencies, local, state and federal districts. Will maintain attorney and client matter calendar systems. Will circulate and file documents with Firm s document management system and clients systems. Will handle in-coming correspondence (including gathering and/or preparing needed materials for lawyer s review of same in a timely fashion). Will proficiently handle all scheduling and travel arrangements for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, trials, etc. will open new files, request conflict of interest checks, and maintain client and general files. Will reconcile and submit travel, client development, and client expenses for reimbursement The candidate should have extensive litigation and discovery process experience. Should have ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under varying and often tight time constraints. Should have ability to effectively, professionally and succinctly communicate both orally and in writing and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong attention to detail. Should have ability to proofread material for grammatical, typographical or spelling errors; and ability to prepare attractive documents and materials. Should have proficiency with word processing (Word), Excel, PowerPoint and time and billing software. Should have familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
